History

St. Paul's United Methodist Church began to form in 1965 when Hermitage United Methodist and Cook's United Methodist started discussing the opening of a new church in Mt. Juliet. In September of 1971, a three-acre tract was purchased. The church was named St. Paul's on May 5, 1972. The first service was held April 16, 1972, in a Tennessee Conference-furnished, temporary building that was consecrated on June 4, 1972.
Mount Juliet United Methodist Church began in early 1988 when the Tennessee Conference began planning a new spiritual ministry in the rapidly growing area of Mt. Juliet. The first worship service was held in the parsonage of Reverend Jim Robinson in August of 1988. A storefront building was found on Mt. Juliet Road that month. The church began meeting in the store front on September 11, 1988. A land committee was formed to search for a building site resulting in 25 acres on Mt. Juliet Road and was unanimously approved by the Charge Conference on December 17, 1989.
Simultaneously, St. Paul's UMC began to outgrow its facilities. A Season of Prayer was called in 1994 to find God's will in resolving the space and land-lock problem faced by this church. It was also clear that Mount Juliet UMC had the potential for growth.
In 1996, Bishop Kenneth L. Carder suggested that Mt. Juliet and St. Paul churches join together. Both churches voted overwhelmingly to join hands in God's work, becoming Grace United Methodist Church in October of 1996.
Since that time, Grace has continued to grow and flourish and offers multiple worship services as well as bible studies and programming for all ages throughout the week. Grace also hosts multiple community events and outreach opportunities such as community support groups and clubs. During the weekdays, our church is home to Grace Preschool, which was established at St. Paul's and plays a vital role in the lives of children in our church and community.
Grace purchased a vacant church building, next door to our property, in 2000. This building is the Grace Family Life Center and hosts an adult Sunday School class on Sunday mornings as well as youth events on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. This facility serves as the current fellowship hall for church gatherings and special events.
In 2008, Grace continued the tradition of church growth in our community. Grace UMC saw a vision and need to serve as the mother church to assist in launching Providence United Methodist Church. Providence UMC also continues to experience wonderful growth and success and is serving a great need in our community.
Grace is proud to be serving among such wonderful churches in our community and looks forward to continued growth and service to our neighbors for many years to come.
Grace Church - We are a blessed community of faith inviting people to be healthy and whole disciples of Jesus.
